Farmers Gasoline M85

Farmers Gasoline M85 is a trade name for biomethanol suitable for existing spark-ignition engines  M85 stands for 85%Methanol. The rest consists of petrol (E10) partly as a denaturant and partly as a cold start aid.

The car in standard version - without the FFV kit - runs on all methanol / petrol blends, but over 65% methanol it is not without remarks and it also turns on the diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) lamp with error code PO171 System Too Lean Bank 1.

Upon installation of the FFV kit, the car ran almost perfectly on MD85. The maximum power and torque increased about 5% from standard which could be noticed when accelerating. The engine also ran more quietly due to the absence of combustion noise. Cold starting was acceptable, however not completely perfect. During cold periods extra petrol had to be added.

MD85 contains 1-3 ppm Cyclohexyldimethylamine as corrosion inhibitor and 300-400 ppm Polyetheramine (PEA) as a lubricant.

Et nyligt udført studie har peget på M85, en blanding af 85 % metanol og 15 % benzin, som den optimale blanding for dansk sommer- og vinterdrift. Studiet viste også, at ældre benzinbiler kan køre på M85.

I dette projekt inkluderes nyere bilmodeller med turbo og direkte benzinindsprøjtning. Bilerne kræver installation af et ekstra modul til motorstyringen (“Flex Fuel Kits”) for at køre på M85 or the control unit is adapted.

The chip or ECU (engine control unit) is modified to accept M85. It ran, however, on any blend from 40% to 100% methanol. During winter time up to 30% petrol is required to cope with cold start.


TÜV - Essen WLTP-EU test on M85 was just perfect.



Agro Industries A/S is a member of the International Starch Group. Our purpose is the supply of turnkey factories for the conversion of hydrogen and carbon dioxide to methanol as well as the supply of both gases. New Fuel A/S offers distribution of the resulting electro-methanol.

The Very Beginning.  Easter 2011 "Beyond Oil and Gas: The Methanol Economy" gave rise to an approach to the author, Nobel laureate George Olah. He expressed interest in supporting us and the Danish Methanol Association, of which he remained honorary member until his death, 8 March 2017. Since then, Agro Industries A/S have been striving to build a plant for George Olah's process for the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide to methanol. We have been on the road ever since and now we see a market. MAN has a total of 89 B&W ME-LGIM methanol marine engines on order - of which 19 are for Maersk.
